The Desk Drawer Fund Supports Ingham Intermediate School District to Provide Over 1 Million Meals to Students
On March 12, schools in Michigan closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For many Michigan families, schools play a critical role not only in education, but also for providing daily meals to students. Ingham Intermediate School District immediately recognized this need and started a program to serve meals to students.
Within two months, Ingham ISD served over one million meals to students, providing enough food to fulfill meals for a week at a time. The educators and staff of Ingham ISD are passionate about the success of all children and providing meals along with virtual education ensured families were taken care of physically, mentally and intellectually.
Members of our community and businesses came together to support Ingham Intermediate School District in their initiatives to continue providing education and meals to their students.
“We are very grateful for MSUFCU’s Desk Drawer Fund donation. This support allows us to provide basic vital needs such as food, personal items and technology access to our students and their families. Research shows that students have a much greater chance of success in the classroom, when basic needs are provided and they have access to their peers and instructors,” said Jason Mellema, superintendent at Ingham Intermediate School District. “This support is not only vital to these students and their families, but makes our communities stronger as well.”
Ingham ISD offers programs and services to staff and students in the districts of Dansville, East Lansing, Haslett, Holt, Lansing, Leslie, Mason, Okemos, Stockbridge, Waverly, Webberville and Williamston.
The Desk Drawer Fund is a foundation supporting the MSUFCU and OU Credit Union communities, and is proud to support Ingham Intermediate School District.
