MSUFCU's Desk Drawer Fund Celebrates its First Year
On April 1, 2019, MSUFCU launched the Desk Drawer Fund to reaffirm its commitment to the community. The mission of the Desk Drawer Fund is to empower members, employees, and other businesses to contribute to a universal wellbeing by investing in our local communities and helping them flourish. In its first year, the Desk Drawer Fund was able to support over 40 non-profit organizations in the MSUFCU and OU Credit Union communities.
The Desk Drawer Fund has five philanthropic pillars in which it supports; Arts & Culture, Empowering Youth, Financial Education, Stable Housing, and Fostering Entrepreneurialism.
Organizations the Desk Drawer Fund supported in its first year include Arts Council of Greater Lansing, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girl Club, Capital Area United Way, Child and Family Charities, Lansing SAVE, Habitat for Humanity, Haven House, MLK Commission, REACH Studio Art Center, The Davies Project, and Michigan Women Forward, among others.
In its first year, the Desk Drawer Fund donated over $222,000 to the community. Additionally, MSUFCU members contributed over $11,500 to the Desk Drawer Fund to support the foundation’s mission.
“We are humbled and overwhelmed by the support of our community,” said Desk Drawer Fund Executive Director, Whitney Anderson-Harrell. “The Desk Drawer Fund was created to encourage investment in our community, and the response we have received surpassed our hopes. This community truly cares for one another and continues to empower its neighbors.”
The Desk Drawer Fund thanks all of the organizations that have partnered with the Desk Drawer Fund to help make a difference in our community!
