Financial Literacy at Affirmations XTL Youth Development Program
The Credit Union and Affirmations joined forces during March and April to integrate financial literacy into the XTL Youth Development Program in Ferndale, MI. As a key tool for success in the adult world, financial education was a natural addition to the program. Workshop topics included financial goal setting, budgeting, investing, and credit.
The Cross the Line (XTL) Youth Development Program at Affirmations is a 16-week program designed to connect LGBTQ+ youth, ages 13-22, with the resources to become leaders in their communities. The program provides career development tools such as resume writing, interview skills, and diversity and inclusion workshops.
Affirmations is a community center that provides programming and resources for individuals of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions. Programming includes resource groups, health education and resources, youth development, and more. With a central location in the Metro Detroit area, Affirmations serves diverse groups of people and is welcoming to all. For more information about Affirmations, click here.
“As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I am passionate about working with future leaders who also identify as part of that community,” said Ian, a Financial Educator for the Credit Union. “Financial education has the ability to empower people to make choices that move them forward instead of holding them back. This is a crucial piece of youth development and career preparation.”
The Credit Union is proud to support future leaders in the Metro Detroit community by providing financial education and resources through a variety of community partnerships. We look forward to the continuing partnership with Affirmations.
