“The main goal of camp is to get kids outside and engaged with nature. However, our focus is to teach kids technical skills that they can use later on in life. The financial education portion that MSUFCU provides fits right into that portion. MSUFCU is laying the foundation of saving and budgeting which are life skills the kids will use after they leave camp.”— Shaun McKeon, MUCC Education Coordinator

MSUFCU Celebrates Youth Members

Credit unions nationwide celebrated youth in April with National Credit Union Youth Month in hopes to show youth they can benefit from visiting and saving at their credit union.

In order to increase financial literacy and promote positive savings habits at MSUFCU, we held three special contests for our youth members: Discover Savings Contest for Cha-ching members (ages 13-17), Create Money Contest for Dollar Dog members (ages 5-12), and Sweet Pea Savings Contest for the parents of Sweet Pea members (ages 0-2).

MSUFCU also chose to honor our youth members by hosting fun activities for families during the week of April 22-27, 2013. During that week, members could stop by any MSUFCU branch to pick up a special prize, a magnifying glass, for being an MSUFCU Youth Account holder.

To continue in the weeklong celebration, on Thursday, April 25, we offered free bike helmets at MSUFCU’s Headquarters, courtesy of AAA, to kids that attended the event.

Youth week ended with Kids’ Day on Saturday, April 27. Kids’ Day was a “discover themed” party with food and games, crafts and prizes, an MSUFCU scavenger hunt, and more.
