On Sunday, April 14, 2013, Michigan State University Safe Place hosted their 19th annual Race for the Place 5K at Jenison Field House.

This was the kickoff race for the 2013 Playmakers Greater Lansing Race Series. And although the weather was unseasonably cold and snowy the day of the event, more than 600 individuals still participated in the 5K run, walk, and wheel event to show their support for Safe Place.

Along with the regular 5K events, there was also a 1-mile fun run and 100-yard dash for children, making this a family-oriented day for everyone. After the race, children were awarded with small, plastic basketballs for MSU athletes to sign.

“MSUFCU has a long-term partnership with MSU Safe Place, and we have sponsored Race for the Place 5K for over 15 years now. We were very excited to see the turn out this year,” said April Clobes, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

MSU Safe Place is MSU’s on-campus domestic violence shelter and advocacy services provider. Their 5K race is the largest fundraiser for the organization and raises money to help provide free services to people affected by violence and stalking in the Greater Lansing area.
