“It's wonderful to partner with the Michigan Arbor Day Alliance for our annual tree planting event where we help our community and the environment. This year, we also worked with the City of East Lansing to plant trees at the Aquatic Center. Staff at the Aquatic Center said the trees planted around the pool area will help to cool the pavement on hot days, making it a more enjoyable experience for those visiting. It's nice knowing a few hours of work on our end will make a difference for so many for years to come.”— Becky, Credit Union volunteer

The annual Race for the Place 5K took place on Sunday, April 9, 2017, on Michigan State University’s campus. MSU Federal Credit Union joined over 700 community members from across mid-Michigan to support MSU Safe Place, a program that provides advocacy, emergency shelter, counseling, support groups, safety planning, information, and referrals to survivors of violence and their children.

Race for the Place 5K raised approximately $25,000 through participants’ entry fees and sponsorship donations. MSUFCU is pleased to play an active role again this year by participating as a platinum sponsor, sponsoring employees’ entry fees for the race, and providing volunteers to help with registration. This year, more than 60 Credit Union employees joined in the effort to give back to MSU Safe Place.

Alyssa Baumann, Volunteer & Advocacy Coordinator of MSU Safe Place commented, “MSUFCU plays an invaluable role in the success of Race for the Place. MSUFCU’s contribution helps to fund advocacy and other support services for survivors of relationship violence and stalking. Additionally, MSUFCU’s encouragement of staff involvement helps to boost our race participation every year.”

The Credit Union is proud to support MSU Safe Place and sponsor the Race for the Place 5K!
