Giving Back Through Local Races in our Community
One of the many ways MSUFCU proudly sponsors and partners with various local organizations and charities is through community races that each support a unique cause. From January through June of this year, MSUFCU participated in 15 local race fundraisers to benefit our communities.
MSUFCU is committed to the health and wellness of its employees and does so by providing an internal CU Healthy program. Through CU Healthy initiatives, the Credit Union sponsors employee participation in community races. In the first half of the year, we had over 350 employee and guest sign ups among the local races highlighted above.
Employees kicked off the 2018 race season celebrating Valentine’s Day at the Heart Throb 5K on MSU’s campus in support of the MSU Triathlon Club. Many other races were held on MSU’s campus including the Annual MSU Tower Guard Shamrock 5K Run-Walk-Roll, supporting the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities, a MSU organization committed to assisting students with disabilities on MSU’s campus; as well as the Bunny Hop 5K, benefiting the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan; Race for the Place 5K, helping MSU’s Safe Place, a program that addresses relationship violence and stalking; Woofer Walk which allowed participants to bring their dogs while supporting the Ingham County Animal Shelter as they work to end animal cruelty one step at a time; and Max’s Race, creating hope and raising awareness for local medical programs for children.
The Credit Union also sponsored and participated in various races throughout our greater Lansing, Grand Rapids, and metro Detroit communities. Additional races included Run for the House which supports the families at the Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan; Run for the Money 5K in honor of Money Smart Week; Mid-Michigan Race for the Cure 5K in support of Susan G. Komen Michigan; the Greater Lansing, Grand Rapids, and Detroit Kidney Walks directly supporting the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan’s mission and more than 900,000 adults in Michigan living with kidney disease; Earth Day 5K hosted by Rochester Avon Recreation Authority; Superhero 5K supporting The Voice for Clinton County’s Children that helps advocate and serve in the best interests of children in our community; and the Spring Robin Race that promotes physical activity, health, and wealth for Michiganders.
In addition to employees participating in local races, Credit Union employees show their support for these organizations by raising funds through dress down days and volunteering at events, which includes working race registrations, organizing packet pick ups, and directing runners on the courses.
Many exciting MSUFCU-sponsored races and events are planned for the fall and throughout the rest of the year. To sign up and stay up-to-date on upcoming events, please visit our events page.
