“It was great to work with a large group of student leaders to help prepare them for their next steps. The students asked a lot of really great questions. The workshop was filled with practical information that students are able to immediately apply to their financial habits. Some students were ready to go home and pull their credit report right away”— Ian D., Credit Union Employee

MSUFCU recently partnered with the Michigan Arbor Day Alliance (MADA) to plant 13 new trees at Evergreen Cemetery. The Credit Union donated $2,000 to help support MADA’s efforts in maintaining an environmentally friendly community.

During the event, eight MSUFCU volunteers planted a variety of trees including white pines, green giants, Norway spruce, dark green arborvitae, white oak, and London plane. The new trees will help provide much needed shade for the Evergreen Cemetery.

The Credit Union has an ongoing partnership with MADA, a coalition of organizations dedicated to celebrating Arbor Day and the important role trees play in community health and well-being, since 2011. Together, MSUFCU and MADA help provide local students with the opportunity to learn about the importance of forestry and natural resources. Over the course of the partnership, more than 600 trees have been planted in Greater Lansing.

“Planting trees with fellow MSUFCU volunteers was a rewarding experience,” said Arianna Saldana, an MSUFCU volunteer. “I’m proud to help enhance the community with MSUFCU to help build a vibrant community.”

In late April the Credit Union also joined in the Arbor Day celebration, at Potter Park Zoo, which welcomed 1,067 students and 586 teachers and adult chaperones to learn about trees, ecosystems, forest wildlife, invasive species, watersheds, and more.
