“I feel proud and fulfilled to know that I have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young people every time I volunteer. Learning about the students is rewarding; I get to hear about their hobbies, goals, and aspirations. ”— Sonya, Credit Union employee and facilitator of the program

MSU Federal Credit Union is committed to giving back to the community. This core value extends beyond the mission and is reflected in the efforts put forth by our community-driven employees. One employee who has gone above and beyond to show an outstanding commitment to the community is our 2019 Volunteer of the Year, Colleen.

As part of the reward for her efforts, Colleen was able to donate $500 to the charity of her choice. Colleen selected the Firecracker Foundation, a local nonprofit that provides holistic healing services to child survivors of sexual trauma under the age of 18 and their families in the tri-county area of mid-Michigan.

“This organization is important to me because the processes associated with reporting sexual assault too often results in further trauma rather than healing,” said Colleen when asked why she chose the Firecracker Foundation. “I share their vision of a better and kinder world in which access to mental health treatment and other essential services is based on need rather than income.”

Colleen has also started her own non-profit organization, Love You to Fleeces, a charitable initiative based in Lansing, MI that provides comfort and consistency to shelter pets through handmade blankets. She has hosted blanket making sessions at the MSUFCU Headquarters building to create additional opportunities for employees to volunteer their time.

Every year our employees set a goal: do more for the community than last year. We are proud to be an organization whose employees live the mission and prioritize giving back to the community.

Congratulations again, Colleen!
