MSUFCU Named 2014 Federal Credit Union of the Year

The National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) has named MSU Federal Credit Union 2014 Federal Credit Union of the Year among credit unions with an asset size of more than $250 million. This award, which recognizes our excellence and achievements over the past year, is a testament to our mission; to provide superior service while assisting members and employees to achieve financial security, their goals, and ultimately their dreams. MSUFCU is excited to be recognized for this award and thanks our members for making this achievement possible.

2013 marked a very successful year in the Credit Union’s growth, development, and our community involvement. Our year began with the opening of a new branch in the Sparrow Professional Building, the completion of our merger with Eaton County Educational Credit Union (ECECU), which resulted in the MSUFCU Charlotte Branch, and the expansion of our longtime partnership with Oakland University to establish Oakland University Credit Union, a registered trade name of MSUFCU. These additions helped to expand our outreach into the Oakland and Greater Lansing communities while allowing us to provide better service and more convenient locations for our members living in these areas.

We were also recognized for giving back to our local community through programs that encouraged arts and cultural education and brought world-renown artists and musicians to Michigan. Last year, our employees donated over $110k of their own funds to charities such as United Way, Relay For Life, and Help a Willing Kid Foundation (H.A.W.K.). They also spent thousands of volunteer hours giving back to local organizations and helping people in our communities.

The Credit Union was also acknowledged for our outstanding member service. In 2013, we saved members more than $7.7 million in interest by refinancing members’ higher rate loans to the Credit Union, offered innovative new products and services, and focused on providing quality financial education to members and local students in our communities. We hosted seminars for over 3,390 individuals, gave over 190 financial education presentations and 49 financial seminars for members, students, and local youth. These initiatives in expanding our financial education outreach is an additional resource that has benefitted our members, students, and all individuals living in our communities.

Through our expansion into new communities, new branch openings, investment in the places we live and work, and our continued focus to provide our members with superior service, we are honored to be recognized as 2014 Federal Credit Union of the Year. At MSUFCU/OU Credit Union, our focus will always be on continuing to build our community and live our mission.
