EAST LANSING, MI—MSU Federal Credit Union was recently named one of Michigan’s 101 Best and Brightest In Wellness by Wellco, Corp! Magazine, the Michigan Business and Professional Association, and the Michigan Food and Beverage Association, and one of six Michigan companies selected to the 2013 Michigan’s Healthiest Employers honor roll program by Crain’s Business and MiBiz. Both awards recognize MSUFCU’s commitment to promoting excellence in the workplace through healthy initiatives.

MSUFCU is committed to providing a healthy work environment by encouraging healthy eating and friendly exercise challenges, providing nutritious options in the employee café, sponsoring community races, and partnering with Sparrow Hospital to offer a wellness forum for employees to track their health progress.

Patrick McPharlin, MSUFCU’s President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, “Our core value of building a positive environment supports and encourages a culture of health and wellness for our employees and the community. We do this by offering employees resources to achieve both their professional and personal goals.”

MSUFCU, as well as the other winners in the Best and Brightest program, were evaluated in a number of key areas including: policies, environment, leadership, awareness and intervention, incentives and integration, measurement, and health care cost.

According to the Michigan Business and Professional Association, “The Best and Brightest In Wellness is an innovative initiative that recognizes and celebrates quality and excellence in worksite health promotion. The program highlights companies that promote a culture of wellness, and those that plan, implement, and evaluate efforts in employee wellness promotion.”

The Healthiest Employer Awards program recognizes organizations that are committed to creating a healthy workplace and healthy employees in six key wellness areas including: culture and leadership commitment, foundational components, strategic planning, communication and marketing, programming, and interventions and reporting and analysis.

MSU Federal Credit Union, the world’s largest university-based credit union, offers a full range of personal- and business-related financial services to Michigan State University and Oakland University faculty, staff, students, alumni association members, and their families worldwide in addition to a variety of select employee groups. Founded in 1937 by a few MSU professors and employees, MSUFCU now has thirteen branches, over 180,000 members, more than $2.5 billion in assets, and over 530 employees.
