EAST LANSING, MI—It’s a top priority at MSU Federal Credit Union to provide financial education services to help members achieve their future goals. MSUFCU offers a variety of free resources to members and non-members of all ages throughout the year.

One of the ways for the local community to get involved and learn more about finances is through the financial education seminar series. Seminars are offered at MSUFCU’s Farm Lane Branch and Headquarters locations on a regular basis, and so far in 2013, MSUFCU has offered 49 seminars and more than 610 people have taken advantage of these free tools. Along with the popular budgeting and credit seminars at the Credit Union, other popular seminars this year have been “Alzheimer’s: The Basics,” “Income Tax Prep,” and “Working for Yourself,” which help provide attendees with different topics on hidden expenses they may encounter in various aspects of life.

“In addition to MSUFCU’s popular seminar series, we have an Education Outreach Specialist that travels around the Greater Lansing and Auburn Hills areas to share financial information with residents and students. Our goal through this program is to ensure we provide individuals the right tools to help them reach their financial dreams,” said Sarah Bohan, Vice President of Corporate Relations.

Some of the organizations and schools MSUFCU has partnered with this year include Michigan State University, Oakland University, Boys and Girls Club of Lansing, local elementary schools, Capital Area Michigan Works, and Demmar, among others. MSUFCU’s Education Outreach Specialist has completed 129 presentations to more than 2,640 people on topics such as “Understanding Credit and Identity Theft,” “Budgeting 101,” and Needs vs. Wants.”
