“We are always so appreciative of the support of our sponsors for this event. MSUFCU not only contributes funds, but also contributes our print materials, billboards, hosts a booth for the children with face-painting and balloon animals, etc. The children of our community are able to learn about good health practices and be exposed to health care professionals in a non-threatening environment because of the Teddy Bear Picnic. ”— Barbara Ball-McClure, Teddy Bear Picnic Event Coordinator

EAST LANSING, Mich. — MSU Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) has been honored with 2018 first place and honorable mention awards from the Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL).

The first place award is for the Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Award which recognizes credit unions demonstrating the practical application of the credit union “people helping people” philosophy for their members, and the honorable mention is for the Dora Maxwell Award, recognizing community service achievements by credit unions. State-level winners will go on to compete nationally for the CUNA 2018 National Awards. These award winners will be announced at the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference, March 2019, in Washington, D.C.

MSUFCU received the Louise Herring Award for its account management program established in partnership with Mid-Michigan Guardianship Services, Inc. (MMGS) for individuals in need of guardianship and conservatorship. This program enables members of MMGS with a reliable process for identifying their clients, and allows them to cash checks at MSUFCU with a unique identification card.

MSUFCU’s CU Involved committee was recognized with the Dora Maxwell Award honorable mention. The committee was established to foster a stronger internal commitment to community volunteering by involving employees in the charity partner selection process. This includes selecting community organizations to support each year, setting volunteer goals, and providing various incentives including Volunteer Time Off.

“We are honored to be recognized for our work in the areas of member and community service,” said Deidre Davis, MSUFCU’s Chief Marketing Officer. “We establish programs, such as the MMGS, to assist members, no matter their financial standing, in achieving their goals and dreams. By contributing to a stronger community, our employees are living our core value of giving back. We are proud to contribute to a community where people are excited to live and work.”

MSUFCU has a national reputation for excellence and has received several top industry and workplace awards. For the sixth year in a row, MSUFCU was named as a Top Workplace in the large employer category by the Detroit Free Press. Last year, it was also recognized as one of CU Journal’s Best Credit Unions to Work For, a Best Workplace for Women by Fortune Magazine, an Outstanding Credit Union of the Year by the Michigan Credit Union League, a Michigan Best and Brightest in Wellness award winner, and is certified as a Great Place to Work®. MSUFCU has also been nationally recognized for its financial education initiatives, ranking first in Michigan and second in the nation for the 2017 Alphonse Desjardins Adult Financial Education award by the Credit Union National Association. Founded in 1937, MSUFCU has 18 branches, more than 265,000 members, $4.1 billion in assets, and nearly 900 employees.
