Why am I receiving unexpected calls and offers after applying for a mortgage with MSUFCU?
When applying for a mortgage loan, a credit report is acquired by MSUFCU from all three credit bureaus. This credit inquiry is then logged with each bureau. The credit bureaus offer services that allow other lenders to purchase lead information based on credit inquiry history. These services allow the other lenders to receive alerts when credit inquiries are logged and then may solicit pre-screened offers of credit by phone or mail. We understand that receiving these unexpected offers may cause confusion or concern, however, we can assure that this is not a result of MSUFCU selling your information. There is no option for us to prevent our members from being included in credit trigger lead information, but there are steps you can take to personally prevent this:

Bipartisan Legislation was introduced in early 2024 that would significantly limit the use of credit trigger leads. Consider contacting your elected officials to share the concern that the sale of credit trigger information use creates for consumers, and to consider supporting H.R. 7297, the Homebuyers Privacy Protection Act of 2024, which would significantly limit this practice.
