Keep Your Information Safe
New computer viruses are created daily and used to expose security holes in your computer's operating system and software. Viruses can affect your computer's ability to operate correctly and even allow outside sources to access the information stored in your hard drive or in your personal settings, including sensitive personal information.
Updates are created and issued frequently to protect your computer as new viruses are developed. It is important to install these updates regularly to ensure that your computer is protected.
Maintain Your Computer's Security
The following tips can help you protect your computer from intrusive viruses and spyware.
Malware, short for malicious software, is designed to infiltrate a computer system without the owner's consent. Malware includes computer viruses, worms, Trojan horses, rootkits, spyware, adware, and other malicious and unwanted software. If you notice that websites are performing in unexpected ways—for example, being redirected to a webpage requesting your credit card information and PIN information while trying to access ComputerLine—your computer may be infected with malware.
Some computer virus scanning software won’t detect all types of malware so be sure to use malware scanning software to help detect and remove malware from your computer. Malware can be difficult to remove from your computer, and it's recommended that you download and install at least two different malware removal programs. Two free malware removal programs* are Malwarebytes and SpyBot Search & Destroy. Run both programs, reboot your computer, and then run both programs again to help ensure the removal of malware. You may also want to change your online passwords using a different computer that was not infected with malware.
If your financial or personal information has been compromised via malware, please contact MSUFCU immediately so we can take steps to safeguard your account.
