3 Ways to Spread Cheer and Make a Difference This Holiday Season
November 8, 2024
The holidays are a time for spreading joy, giving back, and making our communities shine a little brighter. This season, whether you’re looking to start new traditions or find ways to support others, here are three simple ways you can make a big impact!
Shop on Small Business Saturday
Supporting locally-owned stores, restaurants, and other services on Small Business Saturday (November 30, 2024) not only helps the local economy, but it also keeps your community robust and vibrant. Small businesses often have one-of-a-kind finds that make great gifts. Plus, the proceeds from your purchases—online or in-person—go directly to neighbors who live and work in your area. It’s a fun, meaningful way to give back, and maybe even discover some new favorites!
Consider Handmade Holiday Presents
Looking to add a personal touch? DIY (do-it-yourself) gifts can be a wonderful way to share your creativity with friends and family. From building a BBQ kit for a relative who enjoys grilling to hand-knitting a scarf for a fashionable friend, making your own presents shows you care. Crafting gifts can also be a fun way to get into the holiday spirit, and it’s often budget-friendly. Need some inspiration? See our ideas for some simple gifts.
Get Involved with Giving Tree
Nothing spreads holiday cheer like giving to those in need. Each year, MSUFCU’s Giving Tree program partners with five nonprofit organizations across Michigan to ensure local children and families experience a joyful holiday season. It’s easy to get involved—simply visit an MSUFCU branch to select a gift tag, shop through Amazon, or make a donation at any branch or when you contact our Call Center.
Want to maximize your impact? All monetary donations made toward the Giving Tree during MSUFCU’s Pay It Forward Week (November 10-16, 2024), will be matched by the Credit Union! It’s a simple way to make your contribution go further and make someone’s holiday a little brighter.
Whether it’s shopping small, creating heartfelt gifts, or giving back through community programs like the Giving Tree, all it takes is a small thoughtful act to make a big difference in our communities. Let’s come together to make this season bright for everyone!
