“Sponsoring a community event like the Teddy Bear Picnic is so important because it gives MSUFCU employees the opportunity to interact with a wider demographic and contribute to family fun. Our group of volunteers did a great job of putting smiles on children's faces. We were able to have conversations about the Credit Union with kids as young as seven, as well as with their families.”— Lily, Credit Union volunteer

While many face challenges during these unknown times, Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michiganhas an exciting reason to celebrate. On June 22, 2020, RMHMM celebrated 20 years since beginning construction on the House located a short distance from Sparrow Hospital.

On our 20thanniversary, the opportunity to provide needed and critical support to families during this time definitely marked a worthy and strong milestone that will continue to shape the support provided to families in our next 20 years.said Carolyn Hurst, executive director of Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan.

Since opening its doors in June 2000, the House has provided a home away from home for nearly 3,000 families, 74% of which stay for free thanks to fundraising efforts and local donors.

It took everyone, whether it was a participant in the Run for the House event, a donor who gave $5 or $500, a community member who shipped us personal care items for comfort bags, a community partner who has helped provide meals, Sparrow caregivers who helped us coordinate safe deliveries of items, food and more. But, for the House, this is always true. It takes our whole community to help the House carry out its mission every day.  We are humbled and grateful for the opportunity to serve families then, now and always.” said Carolyn.

In response to COVID-19, the House was faced with the difficult decision of canceling their Run for the House 5K, one of their largest fundraising events. This year’s race was particularly exciting, as it was to take place on MSU Federal Credit Union’s headquarters campus.

To make up for lost funds, the House launched a fundraising campaign, #Your20forOur20, leading up to the House’s 20thanniversary. Thanks to the campaign, Champions of the House were able to raise $16,000. This is equivalent to 384 free nights for families, 32% of the annual utility costs and 160 carry out meals for families.

Although the #Your20forOur20campagin has ended there are still a number of opportunities to support the House, either through volunteerism or monetary donations. Opportunities to become involved and support the House’s mission can be found here.
