“I am honored to receive the MCUL Professional of the Year Award and proud to be a part of MSUFCU's mission of helping members and employees achieve financial success, their goals, and ultimately, their dreams. This award is particularly meaningful to me as it is presented by the MCUL, whose mission of strengthening the credit union community while enriching the lives of its members is so closely aligned with that of MSUFCU. ”— Sara Dolan, MSUFCU Chief Financial Officer

The Credit Union embraces its role as a community leader and supports local charitable organizations in many ways, including through volunteer work. To encourage employees to give back and showcase local charitable organizations, the Credit Union hosted its first annual Volunteer Kickoff Party at its headquarters in February.

Part of its recently launched CU Involved volunteer program, the Volunteer Kickoff Party gave employees the chance to meet with representatives from local charitable organizations, learn about volunteer opportunities, and pledge to volunteer at these organizations throughout 2017. Nearly 350 pledges were made to the 20 organizations in attendance — including the five organizations chosen as the Credit Union’s 2017 charity partners.

“Many employees have mentioned that they used to volunteer in high school or college, but they didn’t know how or where to find volunteer opportunities once in the workforce,” said Megan, a Credit Union employee. “CU Involved helps provide these opportunities to employees as well as connect them with other individuals who are interested in giving back. It’s a great way for people to get to know their coworkers as well as their community.”

Employees live out the Credit Union’s core value of giving back to the community in their day-to-day work as well as outside the office. In 2016, employees volunteered over 940 hours in the community. From volunteering at a local soup kitchen, to taking care of animals at a shelter, and teaching children the importance of responsible money management, employees found many unique ways to donate their time and talent to local causes. The Credit Union looks forward to seeing the positive impact employees will have on the community in 2017.
