“It's wonderful to partner with the Michigan Arbor Day Alliance for our annual tree planting event where we help our community and the environment. This year, we also worked with the City of East Lansing to plant trees at the Aquatic Center. Staff at the Aquatic Center said the trees planted around the pool area will help to cool the pavement on hot days, making it a more enjoyable experience for those visiting. It's nice knowing a few hours of work on our end will make a difference for so many for years to come.”— Becky, Credit Union volunteer

EAST LANSING, Mich. — To continue meeting the needs of its growing membership, MSU Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) hired its 800th employee on October 2, 2017. MSUFCU now has over 800 total employees, including full- and part-time employees who work in greater Lansing and in their Grand Rapids and Metro Detroit branches.

Ten years ago, MSUFCU employed 330. Now with 18 branches, two buildings on Headquarters campus, and the Financial Innovation and Education Center (FIEC) across from Michigan State University’s campus, the Credit Union has significantly expanded its geographical presence throughout the state of Michigan. Amidst its growth, MSUFCU continues to enhance its ability to serve members worldwide with convenient remote services and internal department structures to provide members with superior service.

“Our tremendous growth has provided an exciting opportunity to develop new and innovative ways to maintain our family-like employee-to-employee connections, culture, and unparalleled service to members,” said April Clobes, MSUFCU’s President/CEO. “Our mission is to provide superior service to our members, and each of our 800 exceptional and motivated employees makes that possible on a daily basis.”

Every employee completes an extensive and global training program when hired, regardless of position, to introduce him or her to the Credit Union’s core values, culture, goals, and operations. Understanding and believing in the organization’s goals are integral to how employees come together to serve members and achieve Credit Union-wide goals.

“We are proud to foster a positive and supportive work environment that retains current employees and members and attracts future prospects,” added Clobes.

MSUFCU has a national reputation for excellence and has received several top industry and workplace awards. In 2016, the Credit Union was named the #1 Top Workplace in the large employer category by the Detroit Free Press and one of Fortune magazine’s 50 Best Workplaces for New College Grads as well as ranked fifth in the nation for its financial education program by the National Youth Involvement Board. MSUFCU also was named one of West Michigan’s 101 Best and Brightest companies to Work For, receiving the Michigan Business Professional Association’s top Elite Overall – Best of the Best award. This year, MSUFCU was named Outstanding Credit Union of the Year by the Michigan Credit Union League. Founded in 1937 by MSU faculty and staff, MSUFCU has 18 branches, nearly 250,000 members, more than $3.7 billion in assets, and over 800 employees.
