Scams Related to Charitable Giving
With the recent events involving Russia and Ukraine, scammers will try to take advantage of those who would like to support and contribute to charitable causes. There will be fake emails, text messages, phone calls and social media posts that purport to provide important information about the Russian invasion or to be helping the people of Ukraine. There may be links to click, or requests to send money.
Whenever you receive a phone call, text message or email, you can never be sure that the caller is legitimate. Never provide credit card or other personal information to anyone whom you have not called or in response to an email or text message. Before you give to any charity, you should check out the charity online, where you can confirm the validity of the charity and the appropriate channel for donating.
