Our Story
As a financial institution, we believe it is our responsibility to protect and improve the financial health of a community. And that starts with a supportive environment where individuals and community partners are empowered to work together to create a place where we are proud to live and work.

From our early years when we operated out of a desk drawer on MSU's campus to now serving nearly 318,000 members worldwide, we have a longstanding history of being on the leading edge of social change.

We continue to uphold our core values and fulfill our mission - to provide superior service while assisting members and employees to achieve financial security, their goals, and ultimately, their dreams - with every interaction, and we further supplement our rich and progressive culture through our internal Affinity Groups.
Paving the way for women
At MSUFCU, we embrace the power of women leaders, tracing roots back to our first manager (today's equivalent of President/CEO), Frances (Fran) Lesnieski.

Fran was a distinguished leader both at MSUFCU, and nationally, in the credit union movement of "people helping people." Until the Equal Credit Opportunity Act was passed in 1974, many financial institutions required a woman to have a male co-signer on any loans.

Today, 66% of our total workforce is female, 65% percent of our managers are female, and 70% of our executives are female.
Health care for all
We know that when our employees feel secure, it makes it easier for them to provide superior service to our membership. That's why we offer generous benefits to our employees, no matter how they identify themselves. For more than 10 years, and long before same-sex marriage was legal in the United States, we offered health care coverage for same-sex domestic partnerships.
A progressive culture continues with us
Affinity Groups serve as a resource for both group members and our organization to foster communication, awareness, and an inclusive environment for all. Affinity Groups are networks of employees drawn together by characteristics, affinities, or professional interests. Characteristics can include, but are not limited to, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability status, working parents, or generation.

We have nearly a dozen resource groups, which provide employees with a safe haven to share their individual experiences for advocacy and awareness, which leads to promoting positive change.
